Cape Flattery, on the most northwesterly corner of Washington State, is the western most point of the Continental United States. The lighthouse was completed and placed in operation in 1857 on Tatoosh Island. “Tatoosh” is the Makah Indian word for “thunderbird”, the native lightening god. A montage of several scenes in the area. The lighthouse on the island a half mile off Cape Flattery, the small pine tree hanging on to the cliff, and the sea “thunder” caves. It was after including the bird that I learned the meaning of the name “Tatoosh”.
